Venice and Istanbul
(2009 12 11 21:43)
The project tries to show the close ties between Europe and Turkey, through relations between Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire, revealing Venice's role as a bridge between the Islamic and Christian worlds, and showing the similarities between these cultures despite the religious, political and social differences among them. A series of colloquia, conferences and educational programmes together with an accompanying exhibition will take place.
The exhibition of Venetian and Ottoman objects and works of art will be exhibited as the center-piece of the activity from 18 November 2009 to June 2010 in Sabanci Museum.
The colloquia will provide a platform for Turkish and international scholars, museum experts and students of history and art to exchange ideas and research on the relations between the East and the West, the historical context of these connections and their effects on current relations in a multicultural dialogue. They will take place in March 2010.
The conferences will be held twice a week from March to May in 2010. They will provide the opportunity for all visitors as well as experts and professionals in the related fields to learn more about the content as well as the context of the exhibition.
There will also be educational programmes and workshops for school children between the ages of 5 and 17 taking place 6 days a week, twice a day, from January to June 2010 in the Sakıp Sabancı Museum
