(2008 01 18 14:11)
On January 12 th, the Stavanger region of Norway officially launched its year as European Capital of Culture: Open Port. The official celebration in the city of Stavanger was attended by over 50.000 people. The young and old from all over the region together with French company CPM made up a gigantic parade through the streets. It was followed by spectacular outdoor shows, fireworks ,concerts and performances.
The Stavanger 2008 programme is aimed to bring local, regional and national artists together with the most creative international artists to challenge and explore each other’s ideas, thus building new competence and encouraging openness. That’s why Stavanger2008 has invited young and international groups of artists to live in the town for four weeks as visiting artists in residence.
The artists are world leaders in their respective fields of theatre, music and the opera, dance and mixed media. They will use the Stavanger region as a cultural laboratory, working with several of the region's own artists and sharing their competence through workshops, master classes and cooperation, also with a view to establishing networks for future collaboration.
