Art Projects wanted for VIlnius ECC 2009

The Vilnius “European Capital of Culture” bureau invites artists to submit projects for three events, which will be part of the celebrations meant to promote Vilnius as a cultural centre and give artists a chance to display works that will contribute to this goal.

Vilnius will become the next European capital of culture in 2009, but has already been celebrating since 2007. For the year 2008, the bureau has scheduled three artistic events titled “Let there be night” (June), “Art in unusual places” (September) and “LUX Festival of lights” (November).

Artists are welcome to submit projects of various genres and subject matter, intended for presentation during the mentioned events. The projects must answer ideas of one or more of the events and be in accordance with the goals of the “European capital of culture” programme, which are promoting dialogue and tolerance and elevating culture as an integral part of a city and the life of its citizens.

Projects are to be submitted by individual artists and will be assessed by an independent jury of experts in the given field. Budget expediency, qualifications of artists, innovative character and attractiveness and especially cultural and social value of projects will be considered.

The DEADLINES are March 31 2008 for “Let there be night”, June 15 2008 for “Art in unusual places” and 31 July 2008 for “LUX festival of lights”.
