European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2009

The Prize, which is one of the most important and prestigious prizes for international architecture went to the authors of the breathtaking design of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet in Oslo: Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, Tarald Lundevall, Craig Dykers/ Snøhetta.
The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2009, funded through the EU Culture Programme of the European Comission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, is awarded biennially to works which have been completed within the previous two years.
This year winner was selected by a jury from among 340 projects proposed by the Architects’ Council of Europe member associations and the other national architectural associations and the Advisory Committee. The Chairman of the Jury was Francis Rambert and other members of the Jury were: Ole Bouman, Irena Fialová, Fulvio Irace, Luis M. Mansilla, Vasa J. Perović and Carme Pinós.
The Jury has also announced the winners of the 2009 Special Mention Prize for an emerging architect, namely Lea Pelivan and Toma Plejic, STUDIO UP for Gymnasium 46° 09' N / 16° 50' E, Koprivnica, Croatia.
