BalticComic

BalticComicWith a combination of practical workshops for both comic artists and translators and a conference on the status, situation and future of comics within the cultural landscape around the Baltic Sea, BalticComic tries to establish a network committed to the promotion of comics in an area not yet primarily known for its exciting potential in the field.

  • What is the project about?

The event is going to take place at the Nordkolleg Rendsburg (Germany) in 2012. For the artists’ workshops, 2-3 comic artists from each participating country will be invited. Their work during the event will revolve around a theme not only symbolic for the recent developments in transport and communication around the BalticSea, but also controversially characteristic of the comic as an art form: the bridges and links to its neighbours. Simultaneously, translators will base their work on the special challenges that arise in the translation of comics on the comics from the artists’ workshop.

The main aim of the conference will take place in 2012 will then be to create a common platform for those already involved in the promotion of comics (publishers, readers, researchers, journalists, to name but a few) and to give those who wish to get a broader picture of the art a well-balanced overview over backgrounds, conditions and current developments in comics around the Baltic Sea.

Both the contributions to the conference and the translated works from the workshops will be published after the event.

  • Who is the target group?

The project addresses comic artists, translators and publishers as well as researchers, students and journalists.

  • Next edition of the project

The next edition will be in November 2012.
