The International Contemporary Dance Festival New Baltic Dance (Vilnius/ Lithuania) is one of the main and most prestigious dance festivals in the Baltic Sea Region. Since 1997, the festival has presented companies from all the Nordic and Baltic countries, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Israel, Canada, Slovenia, Serbia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Poland, Switzerland and Senegal.
The festival has brought 170 dance companies and independent choreographers from 25 countries that showed 330 dance performances. Among them are La La La Human Steps, Cullbergballet, Aterballetto, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Random Dance Company, Russell Maliphant, Ballet de Lorraine and others. The program of the New Baltic Dance, which is organized by the Lithuanian Dance Information Centre and Vilnius Festivals, consists both of well established companies with famous productions and new young companies/ choreographers with experimental works. One of the principles of the festival is to present the latest productions, thus the event is open for premières, post-premières and pre-premières. The festival also provides the possibility for Lithuanian choreographers to show their recent creations.The festival New Baltic Dance is dedicated to young professionals as well as to academic youth and art professionals.
The next New Baltic Dance festival will be held from 1st to 10th May 2012. It will take place at the Arts Printing House and at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre in Vilnius/ Lithuania.
