19. European Festival of First Novel 2021

At the 19. Europäisches Festival des Debütromans (in eng.: European Festival of the First Novel) authors and publishers from fourteen different countries will come together and present their debut novels.

The festival is taking place from 3 to 6 June at the Literaturhaus Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, Germany in a hybrid form caused by the unavailabillity of some authors. On Thursday and Friday the novel will be presented in the original language and then acted out in German by actors. The readings will be livestreamed here. Following authors from the Baltic Sea Region will participate in this year's festival: Sofie Malmborg Hansen ("Bargums synder", Denmark),  Milja Sarkola ("Mitt kapital", Finland),  Andris Kalnozols ("Kalendārs mani sauc", Latvia) and Ida Fjeldbraaten ("Jerv", Norway).

At the three-day symposium that follows the reading festival, the authors and their publishers will talk in workshops and discussions about the special features of the debut novel as an entry into being a writer and the country-specific characteristics in the literary business.
