Berlin Gallery Weekend

The Gallery Weekend in Berlin will once again show around 50 Berlin galleries and exhibitions by emerging and established artists, welcoming numerous visitors from around the world to the city. The event takes place from 29 April to 1 May.

The internationally renowned weekend of art showcases the work of the Berlin galleries who shape the city as an important art hub with their thoughtfully structured programs and artist presentations. Together with guests from Germany and abroad, the Berlin public will be able to discover gallery spaces in the districts of Mitte, Schöneberg, Kreuzberg and Charlottenburg. In addition, numerous museums and private collections will open new exhibitions for Gallery Weekend. The numerous shows will present painting, photography, sculpture and everything in between.

One of the participating galleries is Gallery Barbara Thumm. Barbara Thumm who was part of the Young British Artists’ movement, she wanted to link the British and German art scenes, organize exhibitions, and create a place that was run by artists for artists. As a traditional program gallery, Barbara Thumm is committed to a resolutely feminist agendatwo-thirds of the represented artists are women. With the gallery’s latest project, the independent platform New Viewings, Thumm is responding to the pandemic in 2020, harking back to the energy of the early years and creating an innovative, digital space for dialogue.
