The mountain-hemmed city of Bielsko-Biała in southern Poland is looking for proposals featuring participatory work by creative professionals of any discipline with experience in the creation of outdoor landscape art.
This call was instigated through the Cities Ahead Academy of the Goethe-Institut with the Institute of Urban Culture awaiting your proposal. It will advance the aspirations for Bielsko-Biała to become European Capital of Culture (ECOC) in 2029, since up to five international winning drafts will be featured in the bidbook for the title and, depending on the success in the ECOC competition, might start being implemented in 2025. The winners also receive a fee of EUR 1,500 and grow their audiences through exposure in promotional materials.
„Weaving wellbeing“ – The multidimensional slogan for Bielsko-Biała as a potential European Capital of Culture should reflect in the landscape artwork. It refers back to the old tradition of weaving in the 19th and 20th century all across poland as part of the cultural heritage as well as the closely interwoven state of culture with nature. The city strives to foster mental and physical wellbeing in residents and visitors alike and nature can serve as a catalyst for this goal. The applying artist or interdisciplinary teams should show committment to these values.
Sustainable landscape art is on the up and up at the moment, bringing awareness to the fatal consequences of climate change and reconnecting the public to nature. The international jury takes the estimated environmental impact of all proposals into consideration and favours those that clearly pursue an environmental objective. To the jury applications will stand out exeptionally, if they also emphasize inclusivity, letting the city’s population participate in the project and empowering them through creative expression.
