CINEMARE 2022

CINEMARE is an annually Sea Filmfestival in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein that was founded in 2016. This year's festival takes place between 26 April and 1 May with 50 exciting international marine films, two multivision shows and various accompanying events.

The festival with its three focal points, marine conservation, science communication and art, sees itself as a marine conservation ambassador beyond the national borders. Impressive images of endangered ecosystems, films about surfing women who are not afraid of monster waves, cool ocean short film evenings in the club as well as a colorful OCEAN PARADE on the streets of Kiel to close the festival on 1 May are part of the programme. During one of the multivision shows Germany's most successful apnoea diver Anna von Boetticher will take visitors on her underwater tours with her program "Waterwoman: The fascination of discovery". She uses her extraordinary skills and visits regions around the globe that are shaped by water.

Films such as Bangla Surf Girls will be shown during the festival: For Suma, Ayesha, and Shobe the beach is where they go to work and sell goods until they find freedom and recognition at the local surf club. Meanwhile their parents have very different plans for them. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion which will be conducted in English. The whole programme can be found here.

CINEMARE is interdisciplinary in its approach, engaging beyond traditional cinema screens with film screenings in museums, video art, exhibitions and educationally prepared school screenings. Convinced that you can only protect that of which you are aware of the value, the CINEMARE Sea Filmfestival aims to promote awareness and love of the sea and invites people to get involved in its protection.
