In the third call for EFFEA, 50 artist residencies provided by festivals are sponsored with 8000 EUR for the 40 smaller „Discovery“ residencies or 15000 EUR for ten „Springboard“ residencies for the more established artists across all disciplines. European lead festivals need to collaborate with at least one partner festival from a different country and propose an emerging artist with potential of breaking through who attends the residency, receives mentoring from the festivals and presents their work there.
EFFEA, an initiative of the European Festival Fund, considers the needs of audiences for diverse presentations, the needs of artists for networks and exposure as well as those of festivals for collaboration and internationalisation. To ensure a wide outreach of the festivals and thus a big platform for the residing artist, all festivals therefore have to be registered at festivalfinder.eu, where you can also find partners. Residencies are not limited in length and can take place between June 2024 and May 2025, after the grant owners will be announced in May 2024. The 40 Discovery residencies require one lead and at least one partner festival to mentor the artist in their early career, who presents their work or work in progress at the lead festival. For a Springboard residency, two partners are necessary and the artist will exhibit his results on all three stages along with a masterclass the artist conducts. An intake and outtake online seminar gives further input and connects the participants. Eligible countries include EU and Creative Europe members as well as Israel, Moldova, Palestine, the UK, Switzerland, and Turkey for partner festivals or proposed artists.
