The exhibition "nature morte - still alive" in Kiel, Scheswig-Holstein explores the question of the intentions and techniques with which Finnish artists today deal with the genre of still life.
Still lifes – nature morte – have a long and varied tradition in painting. On the way to modern painting, still life was rediscovered by young painters as an optimal field for experimentation in the search for new forms of expression.
The theme of still life can be renewed in today's painting. The photographic works by for example Saara Ekström and Perttu Saksa have a global, socially critical approach. Heini Aho combines elements of performance, sculpture, installation, and video in a very unique and fresh way. In her objects and installations, Elsa Salonen works with natural materials, while moving between art, alchemy, and science.
All participating artists: Heini Aho, Annika Dahlsten, Saara Ekström, Jussi Goman, Tuula Lehtinen, Jukka Rusanen, Elsa Salonen, Perttu Saksa, Toni R. Toivonen
The exhibition is curated by Ritva Röminger-Czako and can be visited until 27 November in Stadtgalerie Kiel (City Gallery Kiel), Schleswig-Holstein. Find more information here.
