Exhibition Voices of Violence

The exhibition Voices of Violence consists of 35 short videos of well-known Danish, Icelandic, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian actresses aiming to provide space where the frightening reality of gendered violence can be voiced and made audible.

The Nordic and Baltic countries as well as Belarus face many of the same issues when it comes to gender equality, sexism and gendered violence. The stories have been gathered in close cooperation with women’s help centers in each country and are anonymous. The project is generally connected with the insights and perspectives generated by the #metoo movement which has continued to gain in importance since 2017.

The exhibition has already been shown in connection with the film festivals in Northern Light (Belarus)Scanorama (Lithuania)POFF, (Estonia) and in Latvia. The next stop of the exhibition will take place from 21 June to 21 July at Studlendas in Klaipeda with the help of Embassy of Denmark in Lithuania and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Lithuania in cooperation with Klaipeda UniversityStudlendas, and Specializuotos kompleksinės pagalbos centras (Specialised Complex Assistance Centre). Voices of Violence is one of the ongoing projects by the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The Danish Cultural Institute collaborates with partners in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in creating and producing cultural co-creative projects, organising events and promoting contributions to festivals and exhibitions in the field of music, film, theatre, art, design, architecture and literature.
