Heartland Festival 2022

Heartland combines live conversations and contemporary art with the best from the music and food scene in the magical surroundings of Slotsparken around Egeskov Castle on Midtfyn in Denmark. Egeskov features one of Europe’s finest Renaissance buildings, the beautiful castle garden, a fantastic playground with a huge maze, Treetop Walking, exhibitions with vintage cars, motorcycles and much more.

The aim is to present art from established as well as promising international and Danish artists to elaborate on the contrasts between contemporary art, an open-air space, and a 16th-century castle, combined with a mix of international superstars as well new strains of the Danish music scene when the programme is being put together. The TALKS programme invites danish and international participants to discuss and address ideas, problems, and solutions relating to the time and the world we inhabit. The festival takes place from 2 to 4 June.

One artist exhibiting her work at the festival is Louise Alenius whose work deals with controversial and political issues. At Heartland the award-winning composer and performance artist has created a sound and song performance based on her opera MANUAL, which has just premiered at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen.THE MANUAL is a story about a terminally ailing body, dealing with the theme of active euthanasia, inspired by the debate about the controversial work of the convicted Danish doctor Svend Lings. The whole program  can be found here.

The festival aims to follow the global commitments agreed in the Paris Agreement, combined with the shared, specific goals the festival have set within Live Nation. By 2026 Heartland will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to the 2019 level.
