Innovation Lab

As part of the EU programme Creative Europe’s cross-sectoral strand, the Innovation Lab aims to advance projects through cooperation in the audiovisual and cultural fields, their competitiveness or their environmental transition along guidelines of the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. Alternatively, the focus can lie on increasing the diversity, availability and circulation of European content. With a funding rate of up to 70 % of the respective costs and a total budget of around 7.5 million EUR the call sponsors especially those projects generously that include the digital sphere with metaverses, big data and AI, it’s advantages and dangers.

The Innovation Lab sponsors projects at their different stages: Applicants can obtain funding for the development, realisation as well as propagation of creative solutions for pressing challenges. Optimally, these solutions are replicable and easily adaptable to a variety of creative sectors or national circumstances. Your innovative idea should fit into one or several of these five priorities:

• Virtual Worlds as a new environment for the promotion of European content, audience renewal and competitiveness of CCI

• Innovative Business Tools for production, financing, distribution or promotion enabled or enhanced by new technology (AI, big data, blockchain, Virtual Worlds, NFT, etc.)

• Rights’ management and monetisation (including innovative bundled subscription offers to access diverse content from various European platforms), at the same time ensuring transparency and fair remuneration for creators and artists;

• Data collection and analysis, with particular emphasis on prediction for content creation and audience development (including innovative cross-sectoral tools to improve the quality of the subscriber service and a better valorisation of European content by European online platforms);

• “Greener” practices in order to lower the impact on the environment.

The participating initiatives should bring a cluster of perspectives to the table. It is possible and encouraged to include private and public entities, start-ups, tech companies or business incubators and excelerators ensuring the improvement of the concept and the Innovation Lab itself. In the development of the strategies environmentally respectful, inclusive and gender-balanced practices play a deciding role. Each application requires a description of how these components are put into action and in which way the relevant sectors will benefit.
