Interreg Europe Webinar: Green and inclusive regional mobility solutions

Interreg Europe’s Policy Learning Platform dedicates an online workshop to regional sustainable mobility and demand-responsive public transport in rural areas. From 14:00 to 16:30 CET on March 7, 2024, two sessions and two interactive discussions take place, in which expert speakers from Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal will present best practices. Then follows an online policy helpdesk meeting for individual needs from 16:30 to 17:00 CET.

Decarbonised, inclusive and connected public transport poses challenges differing between rural and urban regions. In contrast to cities, low-density areas often lack public services and rely on private cars, which leads to them missing out on social and economical opportunities and not being able to follow infrastructural advances. In addition, through high levels of tourism, an important economic sector in most rural areas, cars form a major part of transportation. Novel approaches become necessary to decarbonize and connect such regions and provide steady, reliable pub;ic transportation services, which facilitates the relinguishment of cars.

This workshop by Interreg Europe's Policy Learning Plattform demonstrates exemplary solutions and lets participants choose from three presentations per session on sustainable mobility and demand-responsive transport (DRT). These refer back to past Interreg Europe projects and conclude with an interactive discussion. Firstly the audience has to pick from presentations by Jeffrey Matthijs on shared mobility, by Ricardo Palma and Irene Ruiz on the potential of cycling or by Irene Nicotra and Massimiliano Petri on Good-Go, a platform to collect credits and rewards by choosing sustainable means of transport. The following session features an interview with Christian Ramelli on DRT, a talk by Albert Guillaumes Marcer on shared mobility or Jorge Brito’s example of Sit Flexi, a DRT system in Coimbra.
