Nordic-Baltic-Residency 2025 in Tartu, Estonia | 31 August 2024

One artist per quarter of 2025 will get the chance to reside in an apartment in the centre of Tartu, Estonia, UNESCO Creative City of Literature 2019 and European Capital of Culture 2024. The artist must be a resident in Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Åland, Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania.

The call is directed towards professionals with no less than five years of experience who want to make use of the shared studio, broadly equipped with printing machines and a papermaking kitchen. The result will be displayed in a public format of the artist’s choice and should in some way cohere to Tartu, Estonia or the residency organisation.

In collaboration with the Tartu City Council, the non-profit initiative TYPA Print and Paper Centre, located in Tartu, has served as a host for over hundred artists in international and Nordic-Baltic residencies since 2010. It can offer a wide range of printmaking practices (etching, relief, linocut and more), dark-room photography and bookbinding, not only to artists working in this specific sector, but also to cultural workers of adjacent disciplines like sculpture or audio art. It includes a museum which can also be used by residents.

Thanks to funding, TYPA compensates for most residency costs. Travel costs up to EUR 350, accommodations, material costs less than EUR 600 and a fee of EUR 1500 constitute the grant. In addition, TYPA will promote the closing event and allows access to their studio and equipment. To partake, artists have to apply with a CV, portfolio, project outline and letter of reasoning why this residency is the right fit. In October the artists in residence will be notified and can look forward to a period of intense work and a well-equipped space in the vibrant city of Tartu.
