OPEN CALL Residency in Art Writing

Contemporary Art Stavanger (CAS) announces an open call for the 2022 CAS Residency in Art Writing. Applications are open to national and international writers, curators, and artistic researchers interested in pursuing research, curatorial and critical writing opportunities related to the region of Stavanger, Norway.

The Call is open to national and international writers, curators, and artistic researchers who are interested in pursuing research, curatorial and critical writing opportunities related to the region of Stavanger. The residency offers participants an unique opportunity to delve into independent research, writing, and criticism based around Stavanger and the surrounding region. The aim is to create and strengthen networks between national/international writers and thinkers and local practitioners while advancing regional criticism and research.

During the residency, participants will be welcome to conduct studio, gallery, and institutional visits organized in collaboration with Contemporary Art Stavanger (CAS), and will have the possibility of holding workshops and/or public presentations for the local community. The residents will be asked to submit at least two articles for publication on CAS in the months following the residency. Articles may include essays, transcribed lectures, interviews, reviews, research findings, and/or other texts relating to the resident’s activities in Stavanger. Additionally, all residents will be asked to submit a short narrative report of their activities during the residency.

The two weeks long residency will take place in August/September or October/November of 2022. Applications should be submitted before the deadline of 30 April. More information can be found here.

Contemporary Art Stavanger consists of an online art journal as well as a physical residency program for critics, writers and researchers. Through the work, the organisation aims to contribute meaningful conversation relevant to the Stavanger region’s art scene, while at the same time connecting the content to a larger national and international discourse.
