Open Call Comic Creators

The Summer Camp project is looking for comic creators who are considering turning professional and have a project they want to develop. The project is offering an invaluable training in aspects of the comic industry that an academic or self-taught education tends not to take into account and that the profession demands.

The Summer Camp aims to improve both the adaptation of the student’s abilities to the language of the environment, and to help them achieve their professional goals. A range of key factors will be considered: formats, publishing houses, target audiences and the idiosyncrasies of the American, European and Japanese markets. The organisers will review both the mass comics industry and the independent sector and what you need to know about copyright issues, production systems, etc.

The Summer Camp is open to artists who plan to be comics creators, are considering turning professional and have a project they want to develop. The Camp will take place in Barcelona between 4 and 10 July 2021.

Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old and reside in the European Union. Self-taught creators are  welcome, it is not mandatory to be a former student. COMIC ART EUROPE will cover the travel costs within Europe and accommodation for 6 nights in Barcelona.

The deadline to apply for the Summer Camp 2021 is 30 March. More information can be found here.

The Summer Camp is part of the COMIC ART EUROPE project that is a pilot project bringing together five European organisations representing different elements of the comic book ecosystem: a higher education institution, festivals and a museum.
