Open Call DISKURS Festival

The DISKURS Festival is a theater festival between art and theory. The organisers are looking for works of any artistic discipline and theoretical positions on the festival's title of smash|pause|trash.

With the title smash|pause|trash the fesitval aims to give a thought-provoking impulse to reorient social and artistic practices. We destroy what was (smash), we pause and think about what was or could be (pause) and create something new from the broken parts (trash).

smash – Which patriarchal, capitalist and colonial structures do we have to destroy? pause – How can we reflect on our position and develop new ideas during a pause? trash – how can we reassemble these ideas from the pieces as imperfect attempts?

Deceleration as a means of inclusion and reflection will serve as the overarching theme of the DISKURS Festival 2022. One priority is to reduce barriers of access. In addition to aspects of consuming and presenting, a space for discussion about what is seen, about current political issues in art, and a space for exchange between performers of different disciplines and spectators will be created.

The organisers are interested in works that deal with the following questions: Who has a/no place in current norms of working practices? How can we critique practices in which certain groups of people and individuals are increasingly placed in precarious financial circumstances or excluded? How can we work with other communities without reproducing existing stereotypes?

DISKURS Festival will take place on 14 - 30 October in Gießen, Germany. Especially people from marginalized groups as well as submissions that want to collaborate with marginalized groups from Gießen are encouraged to apply. Applications can be submitted in German, English, Farsi, French, Ukrainian. A salary, accommodation, travel allowance of 100 € and a residency for the development of a work and the possibility of a presentation/workshop are offered.
