Open Call Emerging Choreographers

The hub for dance discovery ~ Aerowaves ~ is offering an annual open call for emerging choreographers working in Europe who want to become one of the Aerowaves Twenty and to be promoted by the hub.

Applicants could use the opportunity to let their national Aerowaves representatives know that they are applying and invite them to see their performance live. Video applications should be uploaded to Vimeo (preferably in HD). The video should be a fairly simple record of a public performance of the work from beginning to end and must have been produced in geographical Europe.

The application phase closes on 15 September at 5 pm. Selected applicants will be promoted by Aerowaves for a year via its website for one year by an artist profile, with images, video and press coverage all in one place. Presenting partners of the Aerowaves Network choose to programme at least three of the Aerowaves Twenty in their venues or festivals. Aerowaves relies on its network of 44 partners and presenters from 33 countries across Europe.

Applications have to be European residents. Applications tips and eligibility criteria can be found here.

At its core, Aerowaves seeks to make connections between exciting emerging dance artists, international programmers, and audiences who would otherwise never have found each other. Initially, about 100 emerging choreographers applied to become part of the Aerowaves Twenty. By 2014 this had grown to more than 600. Many choreographers selected by Aerowaves have built successful international careers over the years.
