Open Call Driving the Human

Driving the Human invites designers, artists, scientists, initiatives, and agents to join in shaping sustainable and collective futures that combine science, technology, and the arts in a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach. Deadline: 9 April 2021.

"Driving the Human" is a scientific and artistic collaboration by four partners: acatech - National Academy of Science and Engineering, Forecast, the Karlsruhe Universaty of Arts and Design and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. From 2020 to 2023 the project is developing and producing seven tangible prototypes responding to complex contemporary scenarios.

Driving the Human invites designers, artists scientists, initiatives and agents from any field of expertise and from all over the world to submit proposals for projects that critically engage with the present and propose alternatives to current developments and disruptions, reflecting on what makes us human and re-examine our relationship with society, the planet and life itself.

A total of 21 selected proposals will be presented at the Driving the Human event in Berlin (Germany) from 15 to 17 October 2021. From these 21 seven finalists will be chosen who will be invited to interact with the expertise and multidisciplinary know-how of the Driving the Human partner institutions in order to develop future-proof concepts and bring them to fruition as prototypes. Further more there will be a public presentation in Munich (Germany) from 10 to 11 December 2021 before the further development so the project will be ready and complete for the Driving the Human event in Berlin in December 2022.

An artist fee of 2000€ as well as a project budget of 2000€ and travel and accommodation costs for one person will be provided for the event in Berlin in October 2021. The application deadline is 9 April 2021.
