Open Call Horner Eck Residency

Horner Eck is an old corner pub in Bremen, Germany. Since 2018, the pub is run by a collective, which transformed into a cooperative in 2019. The collective is offering three one-month-residencies in 2022.

The collective has rented an apartment with studio/workshop 100 meters from the pub, that they would like to make available to trans-regional as well as international artists for one month. Questions of the use of urban space between life and labor, common good, community are to be approached during the residency.  At the end of the residency, the collective wants to create a four-week exhibition that relates to the place and wants to bring art into the neighborhood and facilitate encounters. In addition, a vernissage and artist talks are planned for each exhibition. Unlike in a gallery or museum, the guests of the pub usually do not enter the space primarily with the intention of viewing art. The cultural experience is built into everyday life, creating discourse and new impulses that are accessible to a wide audience.

All forms of interventions are welcome. After consultation with the collective, anything is possible as long as the pub's operation is not too restricted. For larger works, additional exhibition spaces can be used. The Horner Eck is a smoking Pub, the works should be smoke resistant. Art at the pub is always shown in a wide variety of forms, always with social relevance and reference to the space. The residents can, if they wish, be artistically advised and accompanied by the project's production management during the residency.

The residencies will take place from 15 August to 15 September, from 15 September to 16 October and from 16 October to 14 November. Applications can be submitted unitl 15 July.
