Open Call Intermedia Artwork ICIA

Intermedia artists are welcome to apply for the International Competition for Intermedia Work of Art that is organised by the Department of Intermedia at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.

The organisers are especially looking for works that open a discussion about the criteria for comparing and evaluating intermedia artworks, the forms of presentation of such works and the role of artistic creation in communication. There are two categories: CAVE – multi-channel audio-visual projection and VR – virtual reality work. Works can be submitted to one or both categories of the competition.

The competition in the VR section includes works created in 3D space and developed for presentation on a head-mounted display with ambisonic sound. The realisation should be interactive using controllers of the OculusQuest type. During execution, the assumed area of movement of the user is 9 m2.

The competition in CAVE category includes audiovisual works realised in streaming digital media, developed for presentation on four screens and four-channel sound broadcasting. The configuration of screens and loudspeakers will be prepared by the organisers and determines the form of broadcast of the works. Only those works that assume a presentation in the four-channel video formula with multichannel sound will be admitted to the competition. The organisers guarantee a public presentation of all the works meeting the conditions of the competition.

The Jury’s will award a Grand Prix of PLN 10,000 (approx. 2300 €) and two Main Prizes, one for each category of the competition of PLN 5,000 (approx. 1150 €) each. There is no age limit for participation, and no restrictions concerning the date of creation, production, previous presentation or publication of submitted works. The Competition is open both to individuals and groups.

Works can be submitted until 30 September. Find more information about the Open Call here.
