Open Call International Forum

The International Forum of Berliner Festspiele’s Theatertreffen (Berlin's Festival's Theatre Meeting) 2023 invites artists from across the world to participate in an 18-day exclusive scholarship programme.

The International Forum aims to open hybrid spaces in which the boundaries between performing arts and visual arts, media arts and science become fluid. The programme will include the presentation of the invited artists and an exchange of their artistic practices, opportunities to see productions invited to the Theatertreffen in its various formats, attend workshops held by renowned artists, experts and researchers from various disciplines, open space events and discussions on current trends in contemporary art as well as excursions into the diverse cultural landscape of Berlin.

The International Forum’s programme is based on five elements: attending performances and other formats of the 2023 Theatertreffen, an exclusive programme of performing arts practice, a programme of performing arts theory, excursions exploring Berlin’s cultural scene and networking programmes. The programme will take place between 10 and 28 May 2023.

For that purpose the Forum is looking for professionals (with several years of independent professional experience) from all fields, especially directing, acting, stage design, costume design, light design, dramaturgy, text production, music, video, performance, media, choreography, production management and theatre education. Selected participants will get a scholarship that includes all costs for participation in the programme.

The organisers encourage artists with children, BlPoC, people with a migration history, queer people and people with disabilities to apply. Applications can be submitted until 9 December. Find more information here.

The festival Theatertreffen brings remarkable productions from the German-language region as well as works by emerging artists from across the world to Berlin. Ten remarkable productions are selected each year by a jury of critics from among around 400 shows within the German-language region.
