Open Call International Translators

The Frankfurt International Translators Programme is aimed at international literary and non-fiction translators translating from the German language. Up to twentyfive translators from all around the world will be selected by Frankfurter Buchmesse to take part in an exclusive exchange and networking programme.

Selected translators will be invited to the official opening ceremony of Frankfurter Buchmesse and the Guest of Honour Pavilion, and will get the opportunity to participate in expert seminars as well as to network with publishers, authors and cultural institutions. The Translators programme will take place on 18 - 23  October 2021.

International literary and non-fiction translators using German as a source language, and who have translated and published at least three books are welcome to apply until 30 April. Two letters of recommendation from business partners (publishers, cultural institutions) in English or German are needed for the application.

The costs for participating in the Translator Fellowship will be covered by Frankfurter Buchmesse with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office. The flight and up to five nights in a hotel in Frankfurt are paid by the sponsors.

More information can be found here.

The programme will take place in Frankfurt - if the pandemic conditions allow it - and is organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the most important international trade fair for publishing and content of all kinds - from novels and children's books to scientific databases, taking place annually in Frankfurt, Germany.
