Open Call Mustarinda Residency

The Mustarinda Association reaches towards a post-fossil culture by combining scientific and artistic knowledge and experiential activity. The organisers are looking for artists, writers, researchers or groups for residencies in spring and autumn 2023.

Contemporary art, boundary-crossing research, practical experimentation, communication, education and events, all reaching towards a post-fossil culture by combining scientific knowledge and experiential artistic activity, lies at Mustarinda's centre. In the coming years, the Mustarinda Association seeks to actively challenge conventions of research, production, and dissemination, focusing on the social conditions of post-fossil life and the long term possible futures in ecological reconstruction. The association aims to continually reduce its carbon footprint and impact on a local and global scale.

Mustarinda is not a thematic residency, the individual or collective practice will be valued in its own right. The residencies will take place from 16 to 30 January 2023, from 1 to 15 December, for 1 month period in between February and May as well as between September and November. Mustarinda urges applicants to travel by more ecological means and consider the time afforded through slower travel as a part of rethinking global mobility as it relates to the industries and infrastructures. The Mustarinda House is situated on the second highest summit in the Kainuu region, adjacent to the north-east edge of the Paljakka Nature Reserve.

Deadlne for applications is 23 October. FInd more information about Mustarinda and the Open Call here.
