Open Call Mustarinda Residency 2021

Mustarinda, a group of artists and researchers, whose goal is to promote the ecological rebuilding of society, invites Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian artists, curators and cultural workers to apply for a residency. The residency is taking place from 1 September to 29 October 2021 in Mustarinda house in Hyrynsalmi, Finland.

The four seleceted applicants will get the opportunity to work on a current project or to develop a new one inspired by the overarching themes of Mustarinda: "Daily Dances, shared spaces, caring phrases", "Squeeze and flow" and "Spinning around peripheral belly buttons".

The organisers expect the chosen artists to travel to Hyrynsalmi as environmentally friendly as possible and to become part of the residency community.  Mustarinda is run by volunteers, therefore the resedients are asked to work as independent as possible. In return the residents get free accommodation, a studio, travel costs excluding flights up to 700€, material costs up to 500€ as well as a fee of 2400€.

The working process during the residency can be a workshop for locals, an artist talk, a screening, a small exhibition, a lecture, a blog post, an article, a gig, a party, a restaurant – ideas outside of the suggestions are welcomed.

The open call is supported by Nordic Culture Point, the application deadline is 8 April. More information can be found here.

The Mustarinda Association is a group of artists and researchers, whose goal is to promote the ecological rebuilding of society, the diversity of culture and nature, and the connection between art and science.
