Open Call Photography Projects

The next edition of the International Festival of Photography will be held on 9-26 June 2022 in Łódź (Poland). The organisers are looking for artists to submit artistic and social projects on the theme of community – encompassing also ideas of utopia, local spirit, cooperation and integration.

There would be no humanity as a whole if there was no communal thinking. Community gives humans a sense of identity and belonging, it makes things meaningful and creates the social foundations. What is a utopia and what is a real possibility in the search for an ideal community? What voices are missing in the narratives of our communities? Finally, how to create a community today based on respect for diversity? These and other problems will be the core focus of the exhibitions, projects, discussions prepared by curators, artists, academics and experts invited to co-create the 21st Fotofestiwal.

This Open Call for Fotofestiwal OpenProgram offers the opportunity to present works to the audience at the International Festival of Photography in June 2022 in Łódź, Poland. The organizers are looking for artists with extraordinary personalities and projects who present courageous visions.

The call for applications is open for everyone - with no subject or age limits. The festival will invite specialists from the world's most important media and photo institutions to the jury. From the submitted projects in this category, the jury will select five, which will be presented in an exhibition in collaboration with the curators of the Fotofestiwal.

The festival will provide: Exhibition during Fotofestiwal in Łódź (from 9-26 June 2022, over 20,000 viewers), artistic fee of 400 euro, accommodation for main opening weekend of the festival (4 nights), reimbursement of travel costs up to 200 euro and 450 euro exhibition production budget.

Fotofestiwal was established in 2001 as one of the first photography events in Poland. Since then it has grown into one of the most relevant photographic festivals in Europe but its core mission has not changed: presenting photography in its various ways (via exhibitions, films, slideshows, workshops etc.) but also talking about important social issues and introducing the unobvious beauty and unique history of our city to the audience. Fotofestiwal is a space for presentation and discussion on society, environment and photography itself. But first of all, invariably, it is a vivid place for meeting, sharing and exchanging.

Deadline for submitting applications is 20 December 2021. More information can be found here.
