Open Call Visual Arts Project Fund

The Goethe Institut supports professional artists, curators, and cultural workers from the fields of visual arts, architecture, design, and art education abroad and in Germany, who conceive and carry out a joint (also interdisciplinary) project.

The Visual Arts Project Fund by the Goethe Institut financially supports the development of exhibitions and discussion-based formats involving collaborative international working processes in which project participants work together on an equal footing to create something substantively new across national borders. The maximum amount of funding available is €25,000.

The funding criteria include an establishment of extensive collaborative structures, due consideration for environmental and social sustainability as well as inclusivity. The application must be submitted by two or more partners, one of whom must be based abroad and one in Germany. The application should show that working contacts already exist between the partners, togethere with an agreement that the dialogue will be central to project approach. The application must also include written confirmation from at least one institution (art association, museum, educational institution etc.) interested in working with the applicants.

Two institutions may also apply with a joint project, Goethe Institut will give preference to small-scale institutions with limited financial resources. Preference will also be given to project partnerships between Germany and transition countries as well as the Global South.
