PÖFF Black Nights Film Festival

PÖFF (Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival) is one of the largest film festivals in Northern Europe and brings home the freshest and most exciting pieces of world cinema every November. PÖFF 2022 will take place from 11 to 27 November.

The films of the 26th edition of Tallinn Black Nights represent the diversity of geography, genre and theme present in this year’s refreshed competition programmes. The films are coming from both renowned, multi-award-winning auteurs and returning Black Nights favourites. It includes nineteen world and four international premieres, including the five world and two international premieres previously announced.

The festival will introduce one new competition programme: Critics’ Picks, that is led by critic and programmer Nikolaj Nikitin. Critics’ Picks was introduced to highlight more arthouse fare in the PÖFF lineup, starting with around 15 features in its first year. The competitions held each year include, among others, the Baltic Competition that will exclusively screen fiction films and also considers minority Baltic co-productions. Rebels and First Features competitions will continue to represent their respective niches - experimental works and fiction debuts. Just Film’s Children’s Rights Programme consists of films that address children’s and young people’s lives. All the films talk about children and young people who are still discovering the world and themselves.

All films, that will be shown during this year's festival can be found here.

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and also into one of the busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80.000 people annually.
