Open Call Putspace

The PUTSPACE project announced the Summer Symposium that takes place from 27 to 31 October 2021 in Görlitz (Germany) and Zgorzelec (Poland). PUTSPACE stands for 'Public Transport as Public Space' and the Summer Symposium focuses on 'Diverse Narrations, Experiences and Contestations of Public transport in European Cities'.

During the five day event experts, researchers, artists and practitioners engaging with public transport will be brought together to create a common perspective of the public space qualities of public transport (PT) besides the engineering perspective.

Now PUTSPACE is looking for participants who will challenge following four objectives:

1. Critically conceptualise and analyse what kind of public space PT is.

2. Understand urban transformations by attending to PT as one of the most intense and contentious public spaces.

3. Offer a localised and historicised perspective on transformations of public space by examining narratives experiences and contestations over PT in different European cities.

4. Contribute to PT-related research and practice in civic mobilisation, planning and policy.

Participants are welcome to apply until 15 August 2021.

Participants will be invited to engage in inter- and trans-disciplinary debates on the more-than-engineering perspectives on PT, reaching beyond a solely academic audience. Hence, the programme envisions a broad range of workshops and public discussions with the aim of improving participants’ research, communication and activist skills. The participation at the symposium is free of charge, travel grants will be offered for the selected applicants

The project “Public transport as public space in European cities: Narrating, experiencing, contesting (PUTSPACE)” is financially supported by the HERA Joint Research Programme which is co-funded by AKA, BMBF via DLRPT, ETAg, and the European Commission through Horizon 2020.
