Runokuu (Poetry Moon)

Runokuu (Poetry Moon) is one of the largest poetry festivals in the Nordic countries. This year's 19th edition takes place with the theme "connection" between 24 and 27 August in Helsinki.

Poetry Moon has taken place in Helsinki annually since 2004, gathering both Finnish and international poets and poetry lovers to the Baltic Sea. The festival consists of late night poetry clubs, poetic and interdisciplinary performances, literature related art exhibitions as well as deep-diving discussions into the place of poetry in the world. The organisers aim to push experimental, marginal and young poets and poetics into the forefront, without forgetting the importance of roots and traditions.

Poetry Month kicks off with thePoetry Marathon and the Poetry Month Poetry Jam. The festival's weekend programme includes Milka Luhtaniemi and Matias Loikala's poetic bilingual essay, the documentary film Qué Tan Lejos exploring the relationship between poetry and reality, a deep dive into Tomi Kontio's poetry, a programme by Poesia and Nihil Interit, and this year's Versopolis poets Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir and Anthony Vahni Capildeo.
