Tampere Dance Festival

The six-day Tampere Dance Current Contemporary Dance Festival presents artists from the top of Finnish contemporary dance and creates an overview of the contemporary dance scene today. This year's festival takes place from 7 to 12 December.

As an extension of the official program, the well-received Afterheat post-show discussions will provide an eye-opening platform for festival attendees as they get to share their thoughts on each night’s performance with the makers. In addition, the festival's popular post-performance talks will connect audiences and artists in engaging dialogues and open up the world of the works to the audience.

One of the events is the merging old school mastery with next-generation flair: [ frames ]. Choreographed for four dancers, this piece is a shapeshifting mass of movement created with acrobatic skill, teamwork, improvisation and heaps upon heaps of cloth.

Premiere of We Called Her Bertha will open the screening called ‘Visual Choreography’. In the film, the characters played by Elovaara and Iles seek their relationship to the surrounding like trapped stage artists who don’t know what to do with this new reality. There is a clear reference in the film to the plight of COVID-19, which the performing artist experienced during a long performance ban. All events can be found here.
