The Tampere Film Festival is the largest short film festival in the Nordic countries where friends of film art and professionals meet every year in March. In 2022, the event will be held for the 52nd time from 9 to 13 March.
The Tampere Film Festival is attended by more than 800 accredited professional guests and employs about 40 people and more than a hundred volunteers. Approximately 400 films are screened at more than 100 screenings each year. The festival's program consists of competitions, themed programs and public and professional events. In addition to short films, the event will feature long documentaries and silent films, as well as occasionally long fiction. The selection criteria for the program are the aesthetics, ethics, elegance and storytelling of the films.
In addition to film screenings, the festival hosts annual internationally acclaimed and high-quality film competitions; an international competition for short films, a domestic competition for short films and feature documents, and, as a new entrant, a Generation XYZ competition for short genre films. Numerous public and professional events are also held during the festival, such as seminars, workshops, discussion events and club nights.
A record of 6,912 films were sent to the international competition, of which a total of 64 short films were selected for the festival. The international competition will feature films from a total of 43 different countries. Among the Finnish films, Anssi Kasitonn's experimental fiction Le Saboteur (Finland 2022) and the short documentary Arctic Utopias (Finland 2021) by Ville Koskinen , Daniela Toma , Svetlana Romanova and Matti Kinnunen are included in both international and domestic competitions.
