Promoting and visualizing Baltic Sea Region’s culture and creative industries
After its revision in 2020, the Policy Area Culture is one of 14 policy areas of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) which was introduced as the EU's first macro-regional strategy in 2009. After having lobbied successfully for this new Policy Area, the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport of Poland and the Ministry of Justice, European Affairs and Consumer Protection of Land Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) have taken on the role as Policy Area Coordinators. Since 2022 the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Poland) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Areas, European Affairs and Consumer Protection of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) act as Police Area Coordinators. They are supported in the implementation by the BSR cultural initiative ARS BALTICA.
Within the Policy Area Culture ARS BALTICA is mainly responsible for the communication via website and Social Media and supports a close cooperation with the cultural actors of the region.
PA Culture focuses on promoting and visualizing BSR culture and creative industries, on preserving and showcasing its cultural heritage, promoting BSR culture, cultural diversity and European values as well as culture as a driver for sustainable development. In so doing the Policy Area Culture contributes to the fullfilment of the following overall objectives of the EU Baltic Sea Strategy:
- Connecting the region
- Increasing prosperity
- Saving the sea
